about Po-Zu

Our motive:

Po-Zu means “pause” in Japanese… Pause, and reflect;

  • Our Feet bear all our weight, and so deserve the ultimate rest.
  • Our Planet bears all our waste, and well deserves a rest too.

Our path:

Maximum comfort – Minimum waste

Po-Zu was launched in 2006 with the aim of setting new standards in ecological and ethical footwear manufacturing.

Our shoes are made from carefully selected natural materials that are healthy for your feet, safe for all the workers throughout our supply chain, and kind to the environment.

We avoid harmful glues by stitching all the components together, which makes our shoes more breathable, durable, repairable and recyclable.

Our other prime purpose is to provide maximum comfort for all Po-Zu wearers. The experience of walking or even standing in Po-Zu shoes is an absolute pleasure, thanks to our unique ‘foot-mattress’ – your feet will feel incredibly rested.

Po-Zu shoes relieve symptoms of tired and sore feet – according to feedback from 9 out of 10 customers, especially those who spend much of the day standing.

Inside Out

Po-Zu was originally conceived as the ideal house slipper, where comfort clearly comes first. We have since expanded our comfort zone outdoors, so you can feel at the comfort of your own home, wherever you go.

history

2006
Po-Zu launched in Autumn 2006, following three years of research and development. The original range consisted of two minimalist house slippers; one for women and one for men, both developed and made in Glastonbury UK, at one of the few remaining shoe factories in the country. They sold in a handful of prime UK retail stores, namely Post Mistress, and Post in London.
In its first year, Po-Zu was nominated for ‘Best packaging’ at the Green Awards , in recognition of its coconut husk seed tray shoebox.

2007
Po-Zu moved production to Portugal to a factory with a track record for ethical manufacturing. Our house slippers became wearable outdoors thanks to discovering natural latex soles, and our first Vegetarian shoe made with pure wool was born. Po-Zu shoes retailed at high-end department stores overseas, namely Holt Renfrew in Canada, and Isetan in Japan. Towards the end of the year we launched our Edible Shoe Cream gaining a vast amount of amusing comments in the global press.

2008
Our first organic hemp Vegan shoe was born. We collaborated with like-minded brand Maharishi to create some highly distinctive multi-purpose / convertible boots and sandals. Russell & Bromley and John Lewis in the UK, among others, stocked our men’s slippers.

2009
We collaborated with the magnificent Italian brand Amazon Life to create a biodegradable water-resistant Wellington type boot, made from Amazonian vegetable rubber.
